Corban’s athletic department announced that the annual Warrior Classic Golf Tournament is scheduled for Friday, July 24 at Creek Side Golf Club.
The athletic director who oversees the tournament, Greg Eide, explained its purpose.
“The Warrior Classic is an annual golf tournament which is our largest fund-raising event for the athletic department,” Eide said. “Proceeds are used to compliment the operating budgets for all of our athletic teams.”
Eide explained that attendees would have a great time starting out with an outdoor BBQ at 11:00 a.m. and a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Furthermore, the format of the tournament is a four person scramble and a team event that allows people of all abilities the chance to have fun and be competitive. Topping things off is a raffle where the winner walks away with a great golf getaway at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.
Senior golfer Jared Lambert believes golf is the right sport through which money can be brought into the program.
“Golf just so happens to be the medium through which we can attract a large number of people to come help our cause,” Lambert said.
The Warrior Golf Classic uses Corban athletes as volunteers to help with the tournament. Athletes are faced with the task of questioning and giving out prizes to the donors at each hole. With some 150 contestants each year, senior golfer Thomas Graves explained how student athletes play a helpful part in the tournament’s organization and encouragement of community through their volunteering.
“It’s a fellowship. It is a great time to gather with other Christians and enjoy each other’s company,” Graves said. “This is a great way to get to know people you wouldn’t normally interact with and be with the Corban community.”
Sign-ups for the Warrior Classic Golf Tournament begin mid-April.
